Scott A. Secor specializes in workers compensation defense, with over thirteen years of experience representing national insurance companies, self-insured international employers, third-party claims administrators and the quasi-governmental entity the California Insurance Guarantee Association.  Scott has experience in all manner of workers’ compensation issues including pre SB 899 and post SB 863 statutory legislation in California.  He has defended Labor Code § 132(a) wrongful termination claims and Serious & Will claims.  He has also worked hand in hand with the Special Investigation Unit fraud division of the California Department of Insurance.

Over the course of his career, Scott has achieved six (6) “Take Nothing” total defense verdicts on claims that have proceeded to trial where the threshold issue of industrial injury was not met (AOE/COE or Arising Out of Employment/during the Course Of Employment).

Scott was instrumental in the creation and development of a prior defense firm.  His clients have included international luxury hotel The Four Seasons, Merchants Building Maintenance, American Business Maintenance, Zurich North America Insurance Company, Sedgwick CMS, Select Staffing Company, Meadowbrook Insurance Group, Chartis/AIG, AmTrust North America, CompWest, Clarendon Insurance, SeaBright, American All Risk Loss Administrators, ESIS, Inc., Sterling Auto Collision Centers, L-3 communications, American Equity Risk Services/FARA, California Insurance Guarantee Association, Federal Express Corporation, Crum & Forster and Friendly Franchisees Corporation, among others.

Scott received his Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in 1991 and his Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law in San Diego, CA in 1996.  He is married with one daughter and one son.

Over the course of his career, Scott has conducted and participated in lectures and seminars pertaining to SB 899 and SB 899 and most recently to Corvel regarding correct defense procedures in the initial 90 days of the life of a workers’ compensation claim.
